In all it will take approximately 8 days of travelling to complete the Tuk Tuk Challenge. We'll celebrate with a beach party at the finish!
Rough schedule
Upon arrival in Siem Reap, Cambodia, you will be able to visit Angkorwat prior to the commencement of the Challenge. After your touring and temple watching you will come to the MaD House. There you add the finishing touches to your pimped Tuk Tuk, meet the other teams, and receive some basic Tuk Tuk driving tips. In the evening, you’ll head into town for a big night out to calm the nerves!
The challenge starts at the break of dawn on the 1st of April 2010 in Siem reap with the State Governor waiving you off as you embark on the journey of a lifetime. Just pray you have 9 lives!
Day 1 to 10 or so As you travel from the tourist city of Siem Reap in the West to the seaside resort city of Sihanoukville in the south, you’ll experience the real Cambodia, far from the reach of all but the most adventurous and hardened travellers. You can expect to spend each night sleeping under a mosquito net in a Pergoda or under the the stars – sunburn, mosquitoes, ant bites, dust, blisters, bruises, cuts, grazes, and a numb bum from the non-existent roads are all pretty much guaranteed.
There will be plenty of off-road, taking dirt roads and this is not the *easy* route. Tuk tuk drivers in Siem Reap would not even drive the route if they were paid a commercial rate!
Once you finish the MaD Tuk Tuk Challenge you'll celebrate with a big party... Cambodian style on the beach complete with fireworks and copious amounts of beer! After nursing your hangover we’ll get you back to Phnom Penh to bask in the glory of being the first to complete the Tuk Tuk Challenge.
